Performance Evaluation of a Biological Pre-Treatment Coupled with the Down-Flow Expanded Granular Bed Reactor (DEGBR) for Treatment of Poultry Slaughterhouse Wastewater

Poultry slaughterhouse wastewater contains high concentrations of chemical oxygen demand (COD), total suspended solids (TSSs), fats, oil and grease (FOG), proteins carbohydrates. It is important that the treated to acceptable environmental discharge standards. In this study, poultry (PSW) was using two-stage processes consisting a biological pre-treatment biodegrading agent (Eco-flushTM) coupled with down-flow expanded granular bed reactor (DEGBR). The results showed observed be highly effective for removal FOG, COD TSS efficiency 80 ± 6.3%, 38 8.4% 56 7.2%, respectively. DEGBR stable performance in terms and, removal, average efficiencies 89 2.8%, 87 9.5%, 94 3.7%, overall rate integrated system TSS, 97 0.8%, 92 6.3% 1.2%. Furthermore, volatile fatty acid/alkalinity (VFA/Alkalinity) ratio 0.2 reported, which indicated throughout operation.
